Stupak Decision ‘Unconscionable’

by CatholicVoteAction on March 21st, 2010

CHICAGO –  Brian Burch, President of CatholicVote.org, issued the following statement in reaction to the Stupak-Obama agreement:

“The decision by Rep. Stupak to accept an Executive Order to solve the abortion issues in the health care legislation is unconscionable. The Executive Order fix is a band-aid solution that fails to solve the fundamental problems in this bill, and can be repealed at any time, for any reason, by the President or future presidents.  The Order is likely to be challenged by pro-abortion groups, and could be struck down by the courts.

“Regrettably, Rep. Stupak has abandoned those who have stood by him during the recent weeks and months.

“The Catholic Bishops along with CatholicVote.org and every major pro-life organization oppose this ‘fix.’  We have defended Rep. Stupak for months, but today we stand in protest of his decision.

“The Stupak-Obama purported fix also sets the stage for a new front in presidential politics that will further politicize the abortion issue.  The decision over taxpayer funding for abortion and critical conscience protections now rests with President Obama, Kathleen Sebelius, and future presidents.

“Catholics have worked hard to make the protection of unborn life a two-party effort. Pro-life members of the Democratic Party encouraged these efforts over the last year.  But today’s decision by Rep. Stupak and his colleagues, coming only months after the phony compromise of Sen. Nelson will be difficult to overcome.

“We are convinced Rep. Stupak will come to deeply regret today’s decision.”

Rep.Stupak is a “Judas goat” He is unprincipled, has no ethics or integrity. He should be gone by September. He has sold the people of America and his soul for the promise of a lying usurper of the highest office of the most free country in the world. America was once a nation that all OTHER NATIONS looked up to, today because of people like Stupak, Peolsi, Reid, Obama and others; we are looked down upon. In the past all nations virtually BOWED to the President of the Great USA, now the president of the usa bows to other leaders. Shame, Shame.

I am a pro life Democrat and my heart sank when he caved. Both party’s have their turn coats but the Democrats have to find their voice and have the guts to stand against the Culture of Death. I have been endorsed by the Kentucky Right to Life, I am the real deal.

I am very disappointed and saddened with Mr. Stupak’s decision to support the health care bill but believe that he must have been coerced or threatened, or his family threatened, in some way that made him change his vote. We need to pray that he will now be able to live with his decision and ask God to forgive him. We can’t be like the Washington politicians.

I feel very sorry for him, someday he will be sorry and it will not be w/us, We the People, it will be w/our Maker. St. Peter made a mistake 3/times, he denied Jesus and he was forgiven, he will be forgiven too. But it would have been much better if he could stand up for his Faith, Convictions and for our Constitution….we all, all citizens, want and know that we need a Healthcare reform, but not this one there are in this Healthcare Bill there many things that do no belong to Health, and one very important thing Stupak should have said in front of everyone in Congress…”No I cannot vote for this Bill for 2-reasons…1- I defend Life we need to begin from scratch a new Bill w/both Parties working together, 2- we in in both House have not Listen to the People, and we all know it therefore this Bill should be voted NO” oh, boy he would have won the Noble Peace Price and more…
Now we know that the Democrats are for the Party and not for the People, our Country and its Constitution.

Bart Stupak is a wimpy, spineless politician. I was one of the 22,000+ people that “Stood with Stupak”. He stood up there on Fox News and decried that he would not cave on this issue. I BELIEVED him ! He is a member of The Knights of Columbus and I believed, that he was an honorable man ! He’s just another politician. He didn’t even get his 30 pieces of silver like Judas. Obama played him like a fiddle. SHAME ON HIM ! The Knights of Columbus should recind his membership. But others might say, he got Obama’s promise through an Executive Order not to fund abortions……..as of this minute, Obama hasn’t even issued that Executive Order. He’s letting Stupak twist in the wind for who knows how long. That Executive Order is NOT WORTH THE PAPER IT WILL BE PRINTED ON. In 6 months, Planned Parenthood wll be all over Obama to recind his Executive Order, if he ever does issue it. It’s not a law, it can and will be repeaaled in Obama’s administration or the next or the next. Absolutely nothing changed by him caving in to Pelosi / Obama’s bill. He tried to past himself off as the Pro-Life Leader of the Democrats. Does he think Obama actually will do something to make his bill less viable to the left? It was Obama that voted against Partial Birth Abortion and it was Obama that voted to let babies die on a shelf after a botched abortion acccidently allowed a baby to live. How could Stupak believe anything this Number 1 ranked Pro-Abortion leader says.
