CatholicVote.org suspends boycott as Hyundai pulls sacrilegious ad
Thanks for letting Hyundai know that mocking Jesus and the Holy Mass will not help them sell cars. They have pulled their sacrilegious ad.
A statement from Hyundai:
Hello and thank you for your feedback regarding Hyundai advertising.
Hyundai Motor America would like to thank you and other consumers for sharing concerns about a new ad titled “Wedding” which aired during the opening games of the FIFA World Cup broadcast last week. We take comments of this nature very seriously. Because of feedback like yours, we have removed the ad from all Hyundai communications and stopped airing it.
We credit the passionate World Cup viewers and Hyundai owners for raising this issue to us. The unexpected response created by the ad, which combined both soccer and religious motifs to speak to the passion of international soccer fans, prompted us to take a more critical and informed look at the spot. Though unintentional, we now see it was insensitive. We appreciate your feedback and hope you will accept our sincere apologies.
With appreciation,
Hyundai Motor America
I’m glad that Hyundai didn’t waste time in taking this horrible ad off the air.

Thank you
Please be careful in the3 future
We have a Catholic Korean student here and he was shocked as well.
Are they that naive to put that up? I don’t think so. They are supposed to be educated people.
It was an intentional anti-Catholic move.
I am grateful (but a bit surprised) at their response. Well done!
I didn’t see it. I now never will because a special interest group censored it. I’m on my second Hyundai…will have to reconsider whether I want to buy another car from a company that is so easily swayed.
That was impressively sincere.
What a victory for Catholic Vote. You all should be very proud of your accomplishments. The Catholic Faith and church shall not be tarnished. You have managed to protect the mother church and for that you should be commended.
If only everything that was offensive was this easy to take care of. You are winners here at Catholic Vote. You should make sure that you keep this in the archives of what Catholic Vote Action has managed to accomplish. Good job.
What was the ad about?
You people just screwed your self out of a million customers.
Hi Hyundai, try also researching the Worship of Early Christians who died for the traditions handed down by Christ before mocking it ever again.
Other corporations take note. That’s what a real apology looks like. The net effect for me is that my impression of Hyundai is now higher than it was before this whole incident. Nicely handled Hyundai!
They will NEVER see any of MY MONEY. As I am spreading the message, FAR & WIDE.
Quick response and action!
Hyundai said the feedback “prompted us to take a more critical and informed look at the spot. Though unintentional, we now see it was insensitive. We appreciate your feedback and hope you will accept our sincere apologies.”
How nice! Thank you, Hyundai!
Kudos to Hyundai for pulling it. Producing advertisements aren’t cheap so taking them off before their scheduled time does make a positive statement for the company.
Yay!

Nice work CatholicVote! If nothing else, it was really tacky.
Unexpected? Unintentional? Wasn’t there anyone at Hyundai who was smart enough to think it might alienate members of the international soccer/football community?
Props to Hyundai. I received the email as shown above in response to my letter. I wrote back and THANKED them for their prompt reply and for the swift action to pull this blasphemous ad. I thank Fr. Z. and you Thomas and CMR for getting this out into cyber-space and I thank all those who jumped on it! Props!
It shouldn’t have gone on in the first place, and they’re probably just covering their sorry behinds. They should make a substantial contribution to the Catholic charity of their choice.
